Most of us in the gender critical movement are likely to have heard of the Good Law Project (GLO), a bumbling, blundering, litigious and blatantly odd campaign group initially set up to counteract attempts by the government to implement Brexit.
Now much like Stonewall, they served their initial purpose and moved into trans activism to keep going. The GLP most notably joined a homophobic attack on the LGB Alliance, seeking to strip the awarded charitable status; joining with trans activist groups such as Stonewall and Mermaids:
The Kingpin
The GLP is headed by Jolyon ‘he/him’ Maugham, a heterosexual male barrister who made a career fas a tax lawyer, but is most well known for beating a fox to death with a baseball bat whilst wearing his wife’s kimono.
The GLP was founded in January 2017 and attempted to challenge Brexit in the High Court, but failed in these challenges. It has since brought over 14 judicial reviews to court and was criticised by the High Court over this. All of this is made possible by crowdfunding, however GLP is yet to be successful in any of its endeavours.
The GLP has come to specialise in trans activism and brought yet another judicial review against the NHS in December 2021. This time over claims of waiting time breaches and a failure to provide wrong-sex hormones and puberty blockers to ‘trans children’; in the face of evidence in the Cass Review showing that puberty blockers and hormones are potentially harmful to children and the countless testimonies of no doubt inconvenient de-transitioners.
Jolyon has found alike minds in his new ‘vocation’, finding company in particularly trans-identified males and female handmaidens. He recently appeared on the podcast of vociferous trans activist and trans-identified male Katy Montgomerie.
Jolyon also likes to tweet absolute claptrap, retweeted here by Alex Sharpe a trans-identified male Professor:
Here is Amanda ‘they/she’ Knox, a woman who identifies as non-binary, expressing her support for GLP’s most recent trans fundraising campaign:
The GLP also produces fundraising propaganda, here is Jolyon himself interviewing Susie, a 50-something trans-identified male about his transition:
The GLP has hired trans activist lawyers, here is Helen Fry a barrister at GLP discussing the ‘anti-trans’ Conversion Therapy Bill:
For some a law firm needs to commission yet another activist law firm for ‘further advice’. They also have helpful bearded woke blokes such as Jay here, a ‘he/they’ who identfies as ‘queer’ threatening to block those who disagree with more silly name calling:
The Legal Defence Fund for Transgender Lives
To front this campaign, GLP has created the ‘Legal Defence Fund for Transgender Lives’ group, so far the crowdfunder for this group hasn’t reached its goal. As previously written by the excellent JL, the group has an ‘advisory board’.
Let’s take a look at some of them:
CN Lester
CN Lester is a trans activist and author of Trans Like Me and uses ‘they/them’ pronouns. She is also an opera singer and has written extensively on trans topics.
Sabah Choudrey
Sabah Choudery is a non-binary trans activist who uses ‘they/them’ pronouns, describing himself as a ‘proud transgender Muslim’ and ‘reluctant activist’. Despite being reluctant he writes a rather self indulgent blog and Twitter page, writing about ‘queer therapy’ for the BACP and organising ‘Trans Pride Brighton’ in 2012.
Penni Gillen
Penni ‘she/her’ Gillen is the mother of a trans-identified child and has constructed her entire online identity around that.
Dr Kamilla Kamaruddin
Kamilla is a trans-identified male GP operating in East London, he campaigns on ‘affirmative’ healthcare matters and has won awards from various organisations including Pink News and he has written for the British Journal of General Practitioners about his ‘transition’, describing receiving ‘feminising’ cosmetic surgery funded by the taxpayer.
Alex Sharpe
Alex Sharpe is Professor of Law at the University of Warwick and a trans-identified male. He proudly flexes his study of the post-modern theorist ravings of Judith Butler and Michel Foucault, a known paedophile and has a penchant for ‘slutty’ bright red lipstick.
Sharpe has written a series of books where he attempts to ‘reframe law’ using post-modernism as a guide. He regularly tweets articles comparing gender critical feminists to fascists and Kim Jong-Un and referring to gender critical feminist talking points as a ’moral panic’.
Dr Leanne Taylor
Dr Leanne Taylor is a social work lecturer at the University of Kent, maintaining a fairly low profile on the internet; unusual for an academic. Leanne works with the ‘The Trans* Awareness In Social Work Project’ aiming to inject trans activism in social work education and training.
Ramses Underhill-Smith
Ramses is the trans-identified female founder and Managing Director of Alternative Care Services (ACS) . Ramses describes herself as a ‘Businessman and LGBT+ campaigner’ on LinkedIn. She started ACS to offer care for older LGBT people and started out with a very commendable aim.
However she has since written about ‘affirmative’ care for trans-identified dementia patients, suggesting that if they forget their ‘gender identity’ it should still be enforced; ignoring the fact this make worsen the already often limited quality of life of dementia patients.
Failed legal challenges and continuing fundraising
For a group of rather litigious solicitors and barristers, the GLP has yet to win a case in court and was again criticised by the High Court for this litany of mistakes, failed and poor-quality cases. As it stands, the GLP is again attempting to fundraise to pay for yet more useless litigation:
The efficacy of the continued attempts to fundraise has to be called into question, with another £60000+ to raise, it looks like the GLP is going to fail once again. But where is this money going exactly? Incidentally the group set up a company called the ‘Good Law Practice’.
The GLP has failed in its attempts to legally challenge the government on several occasions, making various blunders including:
Failing to sue the government for the PPE scandal after filing paperwork too late
Publishing witness testimony against court procedure
Withdrew a legal challenge as to not ‘waste court time’
Staffing
Most recently the GLP has been busy recruiting, claiming 6 staff in 2021 jumping up to 16 in 2022 with a combined 2022 payroll of £317,874, up from in 2021 by almost 200% for an average staff salary of £19867 according to filings in Companies House.
In 2022, the GLP reported an income of income of £6,395,451 compared to £2,932,027 in 2021. Also in 2022, they reported a net surplus of £2,653,349 yet none of this money has been returned to those who contributed to crowdfunders. If this non-profit group is in a significant financial surplus and continually hiring staff, why are they continuing to beg for money from supporters?
Further in December 2020, Jolyon was so busy losing court cases that he needed to hire an assistant at a salary of £30,000 yet who required a degree according to the advert:
It appears he was after an indentured servant who could be a law graduate who was also a professional GLP activist already, on a meagre salary in Central London. The Guide Fawkes webpage has accused the GLP of cronyism back in 2021, accusing the GLP of hiring friends from other activist groups to their high paid management team.
Misrepresenting equality law
For a group aiming to specialise in laws, you’d expect they would know to lie about the law. As mentioned all of their actions have been fruitless and money raised instead spent on staffing. The GLP also misrepresents the law right here:
https://goodlawproject.org/news/legal-advice-for-trans-children/
They assert that ‘trans children’ have a right to use whichever bathroom suits their ‘gender identity’ and this is protected by the Equality Act 2010. A blatant lie.
The Equality Act 2010 doesn’t recognise ‘gender identity’ as a protected characteristic but rather Gender Reassignment, the Gender Recognition Act 2005 also states that those looking to legally change their sex must be over the age of 18. Therefore the law doesn’t recognise any concept of ‘trans children’ and they have no right to use a bathroom aligning with a fictional ‘gender identity’.
To be continued …
So far it is not looking so good is it? A company that grows itself and its staffing yet still fails to achieve anything than beating foxes to death and retweeting shit poetry.
Part two of this article will look deeper at the judicial review of the NHS that the GLP is trying and struggling to fundraise for:

Interesting piece, but just one point: the 'shit poetry' is a very minor paraphrase of Bob Dylan's 'The Times They Are A-changing'
